Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most before a first class. If yours is not here, send us a message.

Do I need to know how to dance?

No. Biodanza has no steps or choreography. Everyone moves in their own way, and the facilitator explains and shows each exercise.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No. Many people come on their own. In pair exercises you dance with different people from the group.

Is there physical contact?

Yes, gradually: holding hands, dancing in pairs and sometimes hugs. It is always an invitation. You can decline or just watch, without explaining why.

Is Biodanza therapy?

No. Many people feel therapeutic effects, but Biodanza does not replace medical or psychological care.

Is it religious?

No. Biodanza has no doctrine and asks no one to believe anything. The line of transcendence is about connection with nature and with others, and each person lives it in their own way.

Is there an age limit?

Classes are for adults of all ages. Our group includes people from several generations.

What if I have a physical limitation?

Exercises adapt to what each body can do. Talk to us before your first class so we can welcome you well.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes, non-slip socks and a bottle of water.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is parking right outside Clube Alto do Duque. It is also easy to get there by bus from Lisbon, Oeiras and Amadora.

How much does it cost?

The trial class costs €5. Afterwards we explain the options for continuing in person.

Can I start in the middle of the year?

Yes. The group is open and you can join on any Friday.

Is there much talking in class?

Very little. There is a short sharing circle at the start where only those who want to speak do. The rest of the class is danced.

Are classes in English?

Classes are in Portuguese, but much of Biodanza is lived without words, and we are happy to explain the exercises in English.
